Senior project manager: Level-C certified under the International Project Management Association (IPMA).
Dr. Techn. Ahmed Nabil Belbachir starts working at Teknova November 1st 2014.
He was awarded a Ph.D. in computer science from Vienna University of Technology (Austria) in 2005. He also received an engineering degree in Electronics and a Master in signal processing both from the University of Oran (Algeria) respectively in 1996 and 2000. In the frame of the master degree research in signal processing, he had several scientific stays at the University of Cagliari in Italy and University of Barcelona in Spain.
From 2000 to 2006, he was involved in the ESA-Herschel infrared observatory project “PACS”, where he was responsible for the technical management of the Austrian contribution as well as research and development of the image compression software for the infrared instrument PACS. The software was successfully developed and installed in the launched observatory on 2009. As a result of this research, the book “On-board Processing for Infrared Observatories – Theory and Application” appeared in April 2008.
Early 2006, he joined AIT Austrian Institute of Technology where he was a senior scientist with the focus on biologically-inspired sensing and computer vision. Among others, he co-invented the bio-inspired 360° panoramic 3D camera developed within the EUREKA project SEAMOVES for robotics and coordinated several national and European projects. He is the editor of the book Smart Cameras with Springer, which was published in English in 2009 and translated into Chinese by China Machine Press in 2014.
Currently he is acting as a senior scientist at Teknova in smart sensing and vision and is a certified project manager level C from IPMA. He also serves as an expert evaluator for EU proposals in security. His research interests include computer vision, 3D cameras, smart sensors, real-time systems and computational intelligence. He has about 100 scientific publications, 10 articles in newspapers, 4 invited talks, 4 granted patents, 1 TV documentary and 4 filed patents. He organized the 5th -8th IEEE Embedded Computer Vision Workshops from 2009 till 2012 as a general chair in conjunction with CVPR. Since 2012, he serves in the steering committee of the IEEE Embedded Vision.
Nabil is working at Teknovas location in Grimstad.
